Breathing New Life Into Linguistics
The University of Rochester’s Linguistics Department had an outdated website and fragmented social-media presence that made its research, people, and opportunities difficult to discover. I led a multi-stage digital transformation focused on creating a more cohesive, contemporary, and engaging public presence. The redesigned website introduced clearer information architecture, dynamic layouts, and a stronger visual hierarchy, bringing research and student experiences to the forefront. Research themes, lab spotlights, and stories of interdisciplinary impact now give visitors a more accessible view of the field and its relevance beyond the department. Alongside the website redesign, I relaunched the department’s Instagram and established a more cohesive visual and editorial approach across digital channels. A consistent rhythm of news, events, research, and student-focused content made the department’s activity more visible while creating a stronger connection between its digital platforms. Together, these changes transformed the department’s digital presence from a collection of static information into an active, connected expression of its identity, helping prospective students, collaborators, and the broader public understand not only what Linguistics at Rochester does, but why it matters.
